Bugatti Rimac, part of the Rimac Group, brings together two forces that have redefined the automotive world. By combining Rimac’s cutting-edge electric performance and innovation with Bugatti’s 110+ year legacy of crafting iconic hypercars, we are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in automotive engineering.

Our team is at the core of this, we work with passion, aim for excellence, and take ownership of what we do. We grow together, pioneer solutions, and deliver vehicles that set new standards.

As a Cell Chemistry R&D Engineer, you will be responsible for scouting, evaluating and developing next-generation battery cell technologies across Bugatti Rimac programs
Working across Cell Technology, Battery Engineering, BMS, Thermal, Safety, Validation, Purchasing, suppliers and external research partners, you will define cell technology concepts, development roadmaps and testing strategies from early technology screening to integration readiness, ensuring high-performance, safe and future-proof battery solutions aligned with long-term business and vehicle targets.

You will love this role if you enjoy exploring emerging battery technologies, translating cell chemistry innovation into real vehicle applications, and shaping the future technology roadmap for high-performance electrified vehicles.

Where you’ll make an impact

  • Scout, benchmark and assess lithium-ion and next-generation cell technologies, chemistries, formats and suppliers for automotive and adjacent high-performance applications.
  • Define cell technology concepts and selection criteria based on energy, power, fast-charging, lifetime, safety, manufacturability, cost and sustainability targets.
  • Build and maintain a strategic cell technology roadmap, identifying opportunities, risks and development priorities for future Bugatti Rimac battery systems.
  • Translate cell-level performance, aging and safety characteristics into integration requirements for modules, packs, BMS, thermal systems and vehicle programs.
  • Plan and coordinate cell evaluation campaigns, including electrical performance, aging, fast-charge, thermal, abuse, safety and post-test analysis activities.
  • Lead technical assessments of cell suppliers, research partners and emerging technologies, supporting sourcing decisions and long-term partnership strategy.
  • Perform cell safety and risk analysis, including thermal runaway behavior, propagation risks, venting, abuse response and integration mitigation strategies.
  • Support the development of prototype concepts, integration studies and validation plans for new cell technologies from early R&D to program application.
  • Communicate technology findings, trade-offs and recommendations to engineering leadership, program teams and strategic stakeholders.

What are your core components

  • 5+ years of experience in battery cell chemistry, cell technology development, electrochemistry or advanced battery R&D.
  • Strong knowledge of lithium-ion cell chemistries, materials, formats and manufacturing processes, with awareness of emerging technologies beyond conventional Li-ion.
  • Experience scouting, benchmarking and evaluating new cell technologies, suppliers, research partners or technology readiness levels.
  • Ability to define cell requirements, development plans and testing strategies for high-performance, safety-critical battery applications.
  • Good understanding of cell integration into modules and packs, including mechanical, thermal, BMS, safety and vehicle-level constraints.
