We are seeking a highly skilled Roof Systems Engineer to join our innovative team at Bugatti-Rimac, a leader in hypercar manufacturing. As part of our Body Complete team, you will focus on the design, development, and integration of roof systems for our cabrios and roadsters. These systems include soft-tops, hardtops, and convertible mechanisms, where your expertise in hardware, materials, and sealing systems will be critical in ensuring optimal functionality, performance, and durability.
In this role, you will work closely with suppliers and Tier 1 partners to manage the development of these complex systems, ensuring they meet our stringent quality, safety, and performance standards. You will be the key driver in delivering robust, high-quality roof mechanisms that elevate the driving experience.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and integration of roof systems (soft-top, hardtop, and convertible mechanisms) with a focus on hardware components and materials
- Manage supplier relationships throughout the development phase, ensuring alignment on project goals, timelines, and technical specifications
- Oversee the selection and optimization of materials for roof components, ensuring durability, strength, and weight considerations are met
- Focus on sealing system design, ensuring water-tightness, wind noise reduction, and overall performance of roof seals
- Collaborate with internal teams (mechanical engineering, exterior body systems) to ensure seamless integration of roof components into the vehicle architecture
- Develop and approve technical specifications, materials guidelines, and test plans for roof system components, working closely with suppliers
- Oversee the development and testing of prototypes, ensuring compliance with durability, functional, and environmental performance requirements
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, materials, and sealing issues in collaboration with suppliers
- Review supplier-proposed solutions, providing guidance to ensure designs meet safety, performance, and aesthetic requirements
- Support the creation and release of 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for roof system components, ensuring manufacturability and integration into the overall vehicle system
- Monitor supplier-led development, ensuring progress is on track, addressing any delays or issues related to material selection, hardware design, or sealing
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations for automotive roof systems, focusing on material properties, sealing integrity, and environmental performance
- Participate in DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and DVP (Design Verification Plan) activities to ensure all roof components meet rigorous standards
- Drive continuous improvement in materials, sealing, and hardware design through feedback and collaboration with suppliers
- Manage testing of sealing systems under various environmental conditions to verify their performance in real-world scenarios
Skills and Competencies:
- Extensive experience in hardware design and materials selection for automotive systems, with a particular focus on roof mechanisms and sealing systems
- Strong expertise in sealing technologies, ensuring performance in terms of water-tightness, noise reduction, and durability for soft-top and hardtop systems
- Solid understanding of material properties, including plastics, composites, and metals, and their application in automotive roof systems
- Proven ability to manage supplier relationships in the development phase, ensuring suppliers deliver components that meet quality, safety, and performance standards
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., Catia V6, NX, or equivalent) for reviewing designs and ensuring compatibility with vehicle systems
- Experience with mechanical design, hardware integration, and system-level testing for automotive components
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware, material, and sealing-related issues
- Knowledge of automotive industry standards, regulations, and best practices for roof system hardware, materials, and sealing
- Excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with suppliers, internal teams, and cross-functional stakeholders
- Strong project management abilities, capable of overseeing multiple projects with a focus on timely delivery and quality
