Regular tasks
- Develop and enhance Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools for crashworthiness and impact simulations.
- Conduct and oversee simulations to evaluate vehicle structural integrity under crash scenarios, including frontal, side, rear, and rollover impacts. Integrate carbon fiber and composite material models into crash simulations, ensuring realistic behavior under dynamic loads.
- Analyze and interpret simulation results to guide design improvements and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with design and engineering teams to incorporate crash simulation insights into vehicle development.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to internal FEA engineers.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices in FEA simulations.
- Participate in physical crash testing to validate simulation models and refine predictive accuracy.
- Prepare and present detailed reports about simulation results and performance metrics to stakeholders.
Decision Making Authorities
- Select and develop appropriate crash simulation methodologies and tools.
- Make decisions on technical issues related to crashworthiness modeling and validation.
- Approve modifications to crash simulation models based on experimental results and regulatory feedback.
- Recommend design changes to improve crash performance and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Manage and prioritize crash-related FEA tasks based on project requirements and deadlines.
Managerial Authorities
- Coordinate external simulation and testing resources to support crashworthiness objectives.
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members and stakeholders, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Supervise and mentor the crashworthiness team.
- Report to the Virtual Engineering Manager on team performance and project progress.
Responsibilities
- Represent the technical reference point for all crashworthiness-related FEA activities within the virtual Engineering team.
- Ensure simulation models accuracy, reliability, and compliance with international automotive crash regulations (e.g., FMVSS, ECE R94/R95, NCAP protocols).
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of crash simulation methodologies, tools, and global homologation standards.
- Ensure strong correlation between virtual crash models and experimental validation results.
- Uphold high standards of documentation and reporting for all crash simulation activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in crash modeling and validation processes.
- Support the Virtual Engineering Manager in strategic planning, resource allocation, and team development.
Required Skills and Competences
- Advanced proficiency in LS-DYNA and other crash simulation environments; experience with pre/post-processing tools (e.g., ANSA, META).
- Proven expertise in crashworthiness simulation with a minimum of 7 years (preferably 10) of hands-on experience in explicit FEA tools and safety-critical design.
- Exposure to biomechanics and injury criteria, enabling informed design decisions for occupant safety and regulatory compliance.
- In-depth understanding of global automotive crash regulations and homologation procedures.
- Expertise in modeling carbon fiber and composite materials under crash conditions.
- Strong ability to analyze complex simulation and experimental data and provide clear, actionable insights. Keen attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving skills to address modeling and management challenges.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaboration and reporting. Capability of conveying complex technical information clearly. Ability to present technical information to non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams and experimental validation groups, demonstrating leadership and initiative.
- High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in performance models and validation processes.
- Commitment to staying updated with the latest advancements in thermal modeling and simulation technologies.
- Ability to provide guidance and support to junior team members.
