The Control Systems Strategy Lead Engineer reports to the Head of Control Systems Strategy and is expected to lead the design and specification of innovative Control Systems, aiming to offer class leading attributes and customer experience from the perspective of vehicle performance, efficiency, durability, and reliability. 

 

Work tasks and responsibilities: 

Technical:

  • Designing, implementing, verifying, and validating Control System Strategies at system and vehicle level, from SiL and HiL-rigs to prototype demonstrators and to series production. 

  • Designing and delivering embedded software (SW) for virtual and physical Proof-Of-Concept of the proposed strategies and supporting the subsequent industrialization.  

  • Specification of the Design Verification Process (DVP) for the proposed Control Systems Strategies and Application Software (ASW) through cross-functional simulation tools, SiL & HiL-rigs as well as prototype and production vehicles, adhering to the V-process paradigm.  

  • Defining and implementing SW development processes according to the ISO26262 Functional Safety standards and supporting the associated documentation and validation needs. 

  • Supporting the definition of the Control Systems Roadmap for autonomy-related requirements and autonomy-enabled features relevant to the current and future platform portfolio.  

  • Supporting E/E vehicle system architecture design capturing all Controls Systems implications. 

  • Supporting Aerodynamics, Chassis, Powertrain actuation HW design and optimization by capturing the cross-functional implications of Control Systems, through the definition and implementation of appropriate control strategies and though engineering specification via target cascade processes. 

 

Managerial:

  • Support the Head of Strategy in setting and managing objectives & targets for the team. 

  • Liaise with Tier 1 suppliers for SW and HW of Control Systems and academic research partners. 

  • Adhere to investment and piece costs targets in line with the business cycle plan. 

 

Requirements:

Essential Experience:

  • Broad experience as a Controls Systems or SW engineer within the Automotive/Motorsport industry and proven record in delivering Control Systems for Active Chassis and/or Hybrid/EV Powertrain.   

  • Excellent understanding of embedded Control Systems and hands-on experience of mainstream automotive ECU HW and SW development processes, AUTOSAR & A-SPICE. 

  • Hands-on experience using Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow, model-based controls and automatic code generation techniques for algorithm development following ISO26262 or IEC61508 processes. 

  • Expert user of Software development tools e.g., Vector CANape, CANoe, etc.  

  • Experience using simulation and analysis techniques for vehicle and component(s). 

  • Strong time management, accuracy, diligence, ability to balance multiple tasks. 

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Understanding of Automotive Cybersecurity and ISO/SAE21434. 

  • Understanding of requirements capture tools such as Polarion/Doors. 

  • Experience of FMEA process and robust problem resolution. 

  • Systems-Engineering thinking and comprehension of interdependencies, experience with relevant tools, e.g., SysML, and understanding of multidisciplinary simulation tools.  

  • Experience with model-based development environments allowing for capturing E/E and embedded systems development implications, e.g., PREEVISION, RTaW-Pegase. 

 

Education/Qualifications:

  • Automotive/Motorsport industry experience, ideally both OEM and Tier 1. 

  • Engineering Degree in appropriate discipline e.g., Controls, Mechatronics.  

  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and/or other Control System Design and Rapid Prototyping tools. 

  • Competence is using data acquisition and post-processing tools. 

  • Full EU driving license, ideally Proving Ground B permit.
