We are looking for a Senior Thermal Engineer who will help us develop state-of-the-art components such as gearboxes, electric motors, inverters, battery packs, cooling systems, etc. The candidate should offer innovative and forward-thinking solutions and be proactive. The candidate will set up and analyze 0D, 1D, and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) models based on inputs from various departments such as powertrain engineering or battery systems engineering. The ideal candidate should have a strong passion for modeling, technology, and engineering, with a background in mechanical/aerospace engineering or applied physics and 7+ years of experience within the industry.

Responsibilities

• Development of cooling systems and solutions for different components of the electric powertrain such as motors, inverters or batteries
• Performing CFD analysis of internal cooling flows and heat transfer inside components
• Building and developing 1D simulation models at component level, with an emphasis on powertrain and battery thermal and electric models
• Coupling of system level 1D models with CFD component level simulations
• Driving the continuous improvement of methods and optimization tools to improve system efficiency
• Interacting with other departments or suppliers to collect input data for simulation and model building
• Participating in testing for component development
• Providing suggestions and improvements based on simulation and/or experimental data
• Mentoring
• Writing technical documents, preparing presentations, and communicating the results to customers

Requirements

• Excellent knowledge of Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer
• Excellent understanding of powertrain systems of electric vehicles
• Experience in CFD analysis – flow, heat transfer, multiphase
• Experience with Siemens StarCCM+, Ansys Fluent or OpenFoam
• Experience with GT-Suite or similar software (Dymola, MatLab, Modelon, Amesim)
• Considered as an advantage:
  • Knowledge of Multi-objective optimization
  • Knowledge of ANSA
  • Experience with Reduce Order Modeling
• Commitment to project plans and promised deliverables
• Effective communication and organization skills
• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Aerospace or similar field
• 7+ years of experience with 1D and CFD modelling
• Relevant experience in the Automotive or similar industries
• Fluent spoken and written English
