The Advanced Battery Software team at Rimac Technology is developing a cloud-based battery management system to monitor, predict, and suggest operating changes to ensure optimum battery performance is achieved through to the point of recycling. This enables a transparent view of battery health, which is critical to extracting the maximum value from the system. Extending the life of a battery system also spreads the embedded emissions from manufacture across a longer use period, offering environmental benefits.

We are looking for a Cell Modeller to develop a robust and accurate cell model that underpins this activity. This will require a combination of equivalent circuit models, physics-based models, “big-data”, and machine learning techniques. There is the opportunity to collaborate with other teams within Rimac Technology as well as academia.

  1. Responsibilities

There is some flexibility in the role, so please apply even if can only achieve a subset of these activities:

  • Develop cell models that capture individual electrode dynamics:
    • Equivalent circuit models: electro-thermal and physics-informed.
    • Physics-based models: DFN and ROM.
  • Develop degradation tracking algorithms to adapt cell model.
  • Work across teams to develop experimental techniques for robust model validation.
  • Evaluate available cloud data and define data acquisition requirements for cloud-based model.
  • Develop a modelling framework in Matlab and Python using test-driven approaches and version control.
  • Support teams across the company with model development.

 

 

  1. Requirements
  • Masters or PhD in Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Mechanical engineering or similar.
  • Experience working with lithium -ion cells in industry is desirable but not essential.
  • Be a self-starter comfortable with finding and focussing on the critical path to deliver quickly.
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python and C/C++.
  • Experienced with cell modelling tools such as Pybamm, COMSOL or similar.
  • Experience with test-driven code development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing cell test plans.
  • Hands-on experience of lithium-ion cell and module testing and associated equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Ability to prepare and present effectively to audiences from different professional backgrounds.
  • Bring a positive attitude and enthusiasm to the team.
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally, as required.

  • Experience with machine learning techniques.
  • Experience working with cloud data services.
  • Experience using APIs and querying databases.
  • Experience with Linux and version control tools such as Git.
  • Experience in using software data management and distributed version controls systems (e.g., Github, Gitlab, Bitbucket, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience implementing embedded code into battery management systems.
  • Experience working in or leading cross-functional teams.
