We are currently looking for a Senior Power Electronics Research Engineer (m/f) to support the inverter development for next-generation, high performance electric powertrains.  As a key member of the Research and Advanced Engineering team the individual will be responsible for designing, simulating, building and testing advanced inverter technologies and topologies. Following proof-of-concept prototype validation, the projects will be largely handed over to another team to continue development into mass production, however the Research and Advanced team will continue to support as required. The ideal candidate has a strong passion for technology, should be highly innovative with a hands-on approach and broad skill set. 

1. Responsibilities: 

  • Design and development of cutting-edge traction inverter prototypes based on next-gen SiC and GaN technologies and advanced topologies. 

  • Perform simulation and analysis of the inverter system including the mechanical, thermal, electrical, and controls architecture. 

  • Perform detailed circuit design analysis and component selection. 

  • Perform schematic and layout design of PCBs 

  • Support mechanical integration of PCBs and components with an understanding of mechanical and thermal requirements through design reviews and analysis. 

  • Cooperation with suppliers to support prototype development and build.  

  • Defining and conducting functional and performance tests. 

  • Analysis of test results, and iterative design improvement  

  • Explore novel and unique technologies / topologies to support Rimac’s future product roadmap. 

2. Requirements: 

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar 

  • At least 3 years of professional experience developing high voltage power electronics 

  • Experience with circuit design simulation tools (eg. PLECS) 

  • Experience with designing multilayer PCBs 

  • Experience with component and system level testing of traction inverters 

  • Carried out projects from design to prototype validation 

  • A team player, who is both flexible and creative in their approach to solving problems 

  • Fluent in English 

3. Considered as an advantage: 

  • PhD in Power Electronics 

  • Experience with multi-level inverters 

  • Experience with GaN devices
