Our expectations are high. And we can only achieve our goals with the dedication and collaboration of our exceptional team. Our ambition is to deliver and go the extra mile. We need to expand our already industry-leading team, find the best people, and lead the charge.

At Rimac Energy we are seeking an experienced and visionary Application Team Lead to guide our dynamic application team. In this pivotal role, you'll drive the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge control solutions for grid-tied inverters, playing a key part in shaping the future of energy storage and grid integration. You'll lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and collaborate cross-functionally to deliver high-impact results.

Responsibilities

·       Lead the application team, whilst having direct reports, to deliver the grid-tied inverter software

·       Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced control solutions for multiple domain controllers, focusing on grid-tied inverters.

·       Strategically evaluate and enhance existing control strategies, moving beyond classical PID to implement advanced techniques such as cascade control, feedforward, gain-scheduling, model predictive control (MPC), and internal model control.

·       Drive the development and innovation of core grid-tied inverter features, including grid-following, grid-forming, and frequency response capabilities.

·       Oversee the rigorous validation of features using advanced cross-validation rigs, including Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) systems.

·       Collaborate closely with hardware and software teams to define optimal platforms for implementing robust control solutions, ensuring seamless integration.

·       Champion and lead multidisciplinary projects within a research, development, and engineering environment to identify and capitalize on opportunities for advanced controls.

·       Direct the design, implementation, validation, and sustainment of safety-related control systems, ensuring meticulous documentation and adherence to all required deliverables.

·       Guide the team in generating comprehensive targets and verification methods, directly aligning with customer needs, functional requirements, and detailed Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

·       Provide expert technical leadership and support across the operational team, addressing complex issues related to the integration and harmonization of interconnected components, and driving objective data analysis for resolution.

·       Engage strategically with key internal stakeholders across the business to gather requirements, manage development efforts, and ensure successful integration of control solutions.

·       Cultivate and manage relationships with external suppliers, exploring collaboration opportunities to deliver innovative control solutions.

·       Mentor and develop junior and mid-level controls engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning within the team.

Requirements

·       Master's or PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, with a strong academic focus on Advanced Controls, Data Analytics, or Optimization.

·       Minimum of 7+ years of progressive industry experience in grid and/or motor control applications, with a proven track record of leading a team and deliverying technical projects.

·       Deep expertise in a diverse array of process control technologies, ranging from classical PID to advanced modern control techniques (e.g., MPC, adaptive control, robust control).

·       Profound understanding of grid-tied inverter and power control principles, coupled with their specific domain requirements and challenges.

·       Advanced proficiency in Matlab/Simulink for modeling, simulation, and control system design.

·       Demonstrated ability to translate complex advanced control solutions into robust embedded code and/or high-performance, real-time control applications written in C or C++.

·       Exceptional technical curiosity and a proven desire to tackle highly challenging technical problems.

·       Strong expertise in controls-oriented modeling and system identification.

·       Ability to quickly master new processes, including identifying critical process variables, analyzing existing control solutions, and understanding process specifications and limitations.

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively lead a team, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and present complex technical information clearly.
