Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Logistics & Warehouse Lead to take ownership of warehouse and logistics operations supporting our prototype and development activities.

This role is not only strategic or desk-based; it requires a highly hands-on approach, with direct involvement in warehouse and logistics activities. You will be closely involved in the physical movement of materials - receiving, storing, kitting, and dispatching - while also being responsible for inventory accuracy, logistics execution, and customs coordination.

Alongside day-to-day execution, the role owns the logistics approach and packaging intent across development phases and into series production. While detailed packaging design and series logistics execution will ultimately be handled by the EMS / Contract Manufacturer, this role is the main point of contact, ensures requirements are clearly understood, and keeps external partners honest as programmes transition from development to production.

People management is minimal and practical, typically limited to day-to-day oversight of a warehouse operator if required.

Key Responsibilities:

Warehouse Operations & Standard Processes

  • Carry out and oversee day-to-day warehouse activities including goods receipt, put-away, storage, picking, packing, kitting, and dispatch.
  • Design, implement, and sustain clear, practical warehouse processes to ensure work is done consistently and correctly.
  • Maintain warehouse layouts, stock locations, labelling standards, and material presentation.
  • Ensure warehouse activities are carried out safely and in line with agreed procedures.

Inventory, Assets & Material Control

  • Maintain inventory accuracy and material traceability within ERP / inventory systems.
  • Ensure critical components are available, staged, and ready in line with prototype and build schedules.
  • Own control of warehouse-held assets, tooling, fixtures, and reusable packaging, ensuring they are tracked, stored correctly, and available when needed.
  • Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies, shortages, damages, and missing items.
  • Support material readiness discussions with engineering and programme teams.

Logistics Execution & Customs

  • Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments including booking, tracking, expediting, and delivery confirmation.
  • Manage international shipments including import/export documentation, HS codes, Incoterms, and liaison with freight forwarders and customs brokers.
  • Monitor customs clearance and deal with delays or issues as they arise.
  • Ensure logistics activities comply with UK and international requirements.

Logistics Strategy & Packaging Interface

  • Own the logistics approach during development and support the transition into series production.
  • Define logistics and packaging requirements early to ensure they are practical and scalable.
  • Act as the primary point of contact with EMS / Contract Manufacturing partners for logistics and packaging topics.
  • Challenge assumptions where needed and ensure agreed solutions are actually implemented.
  • Support logistics and packaging handover as programmes move from development into production.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Take day-to-day responsibility for warehouse health & safety execution, ensuring safe working practices are followed.
  • Be responsible for implementing and maintaining warehouse standards, including 5S, ESD, health & safety, and inventory control.
  • Follow up on issues and ensure standards do not slip over time.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify practical improvements to warehouse and logistics processes.
  • Flag risks related to material availability, transport, safety, or customs and escalate where required.
  • Support gradual scaling of operations as activity increases.

People & Partner Coordination

  • Provide day-to-day direction to a warehouse operator if required.
  • Work closely with procurement, engineering, supplier quality, and programme teams.
  • Coordinate with logistics providers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and EMS partners.

Requirements:

  • Solid experience in warehouse and logistics operations within a UK-based environment.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP or inventory management systems.
  • Working knowledge of international shipping and customs processes.
  • Experience supporting R&D, prototype, or low-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Relevant formal qualification in supply chain, logistics, or operations or equivalent hands-on experience in warehouse and logistics operations.
  • Experience matters more than qualifications; we are looking for someone who has run operations, not just planned them.
  • Comfortable being hands-on while also taking responsibility for how work is done.
  • Practical, reliable, and delivery-focused.
  • Confident dealing with engineers, buyers, and external logistics partners.
  • Forklift license or similar certification considered an advantage
