At Rimac Energy we are currently seeking an experienced battery performance engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in achieving our objective to create tangible social and environmental impact. As a battery performance engineer, you will work closely with a team of multi-disciplinary experts to design and develop battery systems with greater performance, optimized lifetime, and enhanced safety.
Responsibilities
- Cell Definition – Work with internal teams, and cell suppliers to choose the ideal cell for each program, ensuring the right balance of performance attributes, cost and risk are provided.
- Develop and execute battery safety and performance test plans, including design of experiments, test equipment selection and setup, and data acquisition.
- Greater Performance Extraction – Utilise models and experimentation to maximise the available energy, power, and charge capability without compromising safety and/or reliability. Assist with degradation assessments and work to optimise lifetime
- Performance Prediction - Utilise models and experimentation to provide key inputs about cell performance, heat generation and degradation to other team members.
- Safety – Work with internal teams to ensure that key safety metrics are satisfied.
- Validation & Verification - Work with internal teams to ensure appropriate levels of validation and verification and conducted to demonstrate that the system level requirements can be met
- Develop and maintain test equipment, including design, procurement, and calibration.
- Develop advanced battery cell/module/pack model and control algorithms to improve and estimate battery performance
- Represent the company as a technical expert for ongoing project delivery and engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Requirements
- An engineering qualification (Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a STEM subject or equivalent) and relevant industry/academic experience.
- Knowledge on battery technologies
- Strong experience with battery safety and performance testing equipment and data acquisition systems.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools, such as Matlab, Python
- Experience in developing electrochemical and/or thermal models for batteries.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of battery safety standards and regulations.
