The opportunity
We are hiring our first Head of Legal to build and lead the legal function. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be the company’s go-to lawyer: a hands-on all-rounder with commercial contracts at the heart of the role. You will own every legal topic that reaches the business, set our contracting standards, and give leadership clear, pragmatic advice that keeps deals moving.
What you’ll do
- Commercial contracts - Lead drafting, review and negotiation of supply and procurement agreements, customer and project contracts, NDAs, warranties and service agreements.
- Energy project contracting - Support contracting for battery storage and renewables projects, working closely with the commercial, procurement and programme teams.
- All-round counsel - Cover corporate, employment, IP, regulatory and compliance matters – whatever the business needs, you handle it or know who should.
- Risk and advice - Advise the CEO and leadership team on legal risk and deal structures with practical, business-first recommendations.
- Legal foundations - Build contract templates, playbooks and approval processes, and manage external counsel and the legal budget.
- Disputes and escalations - Own claims, disputes and escalations end to end.
What we’re looking for
- Qualified lawyer (Croatian bar or equivalent) with solid in-house experience, ideally in energy, infrastructure or industrial technology.
- Strong commercial contracts expertise – this is the core of the role.
- BESS or renewables (solar, wind) contracting experience is a strong advantage.
- A true all-rounder – comfortable owning any legal topic, and pragmatic enough to enable deals rather than block them.
- Fluent English and Croatian, and comfortable operating as sole counsel in a fast-moving scale-up environment.
- Working knowledge of US law (commercial contracting, trade) is a plus, but not essential.
Location and working pattern
This role is based on-site at our Zagreb office, with occasional travel to our other sites and to suppliers and customers.
