Tasks:

 

  • Lead the activity of setting system and vehicle weight targets through compatibility meetings ​
  • Perform deep analysis of activities needed to meet weight requirements (cross-functional interface) ​
  • Perform benchmarking efforts (vehicle and system level) to understand competitive strategies for weight reduction, approach on lightweight solutions to system/component owners, working closely with them on that effort
  • Foster optimization, integration, material, architecture, and technology choices to deliver the best engineering solutions for weight
  • KPI reporting of status against system through review of vehicle weight, CoG and inertia reports based on PLM/BOM system ​
  • Tracking and support BOM and Change Management release process for cost and weight changes (support on decisions and sign-off) ​
  • Monitor and analyze production weight data and support on-going model year in-cycle changes
  • Prepare weight data for vehicle type approval for Masses & Dimensions including supporting the witness test with the relevant authorities
  • Assessment on weight and mass properties conditions under which regulatory tests will be conducted 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Safeguard completion of all aspects within weight management during vehicle project execution through methodology, process, and best practices for lightweight design ​

  • Managing physical verification of weight status (in-plant weight audits)

  • Support validation of part and vehicle weight by measurements

 

Required skills and competencies:

 

  • Educated to degree level in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge in Weight & Mass Properties and its interaction with other vehicle attributes 
  • Experience in CAD packages and BOM management 
  • Knowledge of current and forthcoming vehicle architectures and the trade-offs between cost and weight
  • Able to prioritize own time and workload and work precisely and to specified procedures 
  • Individual able to deliver results under pressure, whilst responding constructively to challenging new ideas and inputs 
  • Presentation skills and experience with Excel 
  • Detailed oriented
